Kathy Grichnik, MD; Brooke Taylor, MPH; John Johnson, Continuing Medical Education; and Fred Westbrook, D.Min, C'Access, Inc.
Online education has become increasingly attractive due to an adverse economic environment as well as increased travel and time restrictions imposed on physicians for live meetings. The Duke Office of Continuing Medical Education (DukeCME) has spent the last two years developing the Duke Education Web Portal, which was created by the integration of a commercial CME Database (CME Tracker) and a media management software tool (the Accordent Media Management System). In addition, the system integration includes OIT media servers (DukeStream), DHTS VM application and DB servers, and YouTube.
The education web portal is designed to use lectures captured from any type of desktop application, lecture capture station, or professional studio capture. The Duke Education Web Portal delivers educational content over the Internet in a fashion that can be tracked during and after use for evaluation and outcomes reporting. Testing capability is included. The Web Portal offers credit card payment options through Duke¿s secure Duke Pay Cybersource online system, and allows for the generation of a certificate of completion (either CME or non-CME) for the learner's records.
